3-D Design
Four Shapes
The four shapes projects required students to arrange four shapes with uniform white strokes in a square frame. The paper version of this project used four black triangles while the version created in Adobe Illustrator used three black squares and one red square. The idea of this project was for us to learn how to use the principles of design without giving us too many elements of design to use. After countless iterations of these designs were sketched or rearranged and resized digitally, I chose these as my strongest compositions.
Line Book
This project required us to create nine compositions using lines and implied lines. Each composition had requirements for the color of the lines, the number of lines to be used, and how many were to be implied. Some compositions were to be created using Adobe Illustrator, while others were India ink on Bristol paper. These are five of my favorite compositions from the nine I created.
Shape Compositions
These compositions were designed to create either implied shapes or to create negative and positive shapes. Requirements were given to guide how many shapes were used in each composition, what compositions could use color, and what effect each composition was to create.
Working with Type
For these compositions, we were given a font and a feeling which our compositions were to evoke. We then used each letter as a form rather than a representative letter, and created compositions using only individual letters against a colored ground.
Emoji Project
For this project, we were challenged to design an emoji that was missing from the Apple or Android emoji keyboards. I chose to design my emojis for the Apple keyboard, and chose to create breakfast foods since they were not represented at all in the keyboard at the time. By combining simple shapes and gradients, I was able to create the ideal breakfast of and .
