The Honey Tree Hive Social Hub was designed to make use of an abandoned home in a small, tightly-knit neighborhood. The community wanted a location where they could host meetings and events, as well as grab a cup of coffee or pick up basic groceries and medicine. Honey Tree Hive achieves this in a space with a bee hive theme, chosen because as bees always return to their hive for nourishment and to contribute to the production of honey, so it is hoped that community members will continually return to the hub for both physical and social nourishment and to work with others to improve the community. The space is planned with retail spaces quickly accessible on the first floor and social spaces where residents are expected to stay longer on the second floor.
